S.C. 1st 2025 IJGA Tournament

Today was the first tournament of the year for our 9 year old child. Due to her late birthday, she falls in the 10-11 age group, and as a result, she is now required to play 18 holes. We have NEVER played more than 9 holes, so playing 18 holes for the first time – and in a tournament – is a bit nerve racking.

After a 5 hour round, she posted a 100 (+30 over par); She played +16 on the front 9 and +14 on the back 9. All in all, not terrible. That fact that she finished and didn’t post a 10 on a hole (hole limit) is a win.

The driver was a bit inconsistent, so she switched to teeing off with a fairway wood. She loses about 20 yards, but hitting it 120 yds in the fairway was a better option than driving it 140 yds into the rough or in the water. This was a good lesson, I always say – hit what works. If you need to club down because a club isn’t working, then do it.

The course was set up to play 4,089 yards for 18 holes. The par 4 ranged between 200 yds to 265 yds, the par 3 ranged between 75yds to 140 yds, and the par 5 ranged between 360 yds to 380 yds.

The next tournament is coming up in 2 weeks – the goods news is that she is excited for it, and not discouraged!
